Photo Lettering exhibit at Chapman University

February 8, 2012

This past Monday I attended the Photo Lettering exhibit at the Guggenheim Gallery at Chapman University in Orange, California. Rich Roat of House Industries, the current owners of Photo Lettering, gave a lecture on the history of both companies and how House came to purchase the archives of the then-defunct Photo Lettering. Following Rich, printer David Dodde gave a great overview of the work he has been doing for House.

I skipped out midway through David’s lecture so I could capture some pics of the gallery without a lot of people in it. The exhibit runs through March 9, 2012 and gallery hours are 11am-5pm, Monday-Saturday. The gallery is located on the corner of Palm and Center, though parking is located underground beneath the football field in the rear of the campus. Afterwards I suggest hanging out a block south in Old Town Orange among the many antique shops and great restaurants–the arroz con pollo at Felix’s Cuban Cafe is amazing.

No problem. I love House Industries and Chapman is a beautiful school. I wish my student union looked like that back when I went to school.
