Unnecessary Wants: Patriot Deck Clock
The Chelsea Clock Company has been making clocks since 1884, first as the Boston Clock Company, and under the Chelsea name since 1897. While most of their handmade clocks are part of their Ship’s Bell line, I’m particularly fond of the Patriot Deck Clock with Black Dial.
A reproduction of the clocks made during WWII, the case for Patriot Deck Clock is made from from phenolic, a durable, heat resistant resin designed to last for decades. While brass is the typical material used to make a Chelsea clock, the company turned to phenolic during war time due to the metals shortage.
Still made in Boston, most Chelsea clocks are forged from solid brass as part of an intricate construction process. A testament to their quality, their clocks have been the choice of many presidents.
