Leather Head footballs and Lemon Ball baseballs

November 6, 2010

First off, I am not a sports guy. I enjoy watching sports, but I have no problem turning off the TV in the middle of a game to go do something else. That said, Paul Cunningham of Leather Head and Lemon Ball has created some beautiful nostalgia-inspired footballs and baseballs. Handmade in Glen Rock, NJ, these are made from real leather (some items out of Horween Chromexcel) and are meant to be used, not just sit collecting dust in a display case. He sells them on his Lemon Peel Etsy store.

I think this football would be great to throw around during the halftime break on Thanksgiving. Here’s the product descriptions from their Etsy store:

LEATHER HEAD™ Handmade American footballs are individually crafted from carefully selected sides of leather.
Crafted with the conviction that a Handmade football is noteworthy and with the notion that fine leather is beautiful.

LEATHER HEAD™ footballs are made in the modern style. To enhance grip, they are made slightly smaller than an official league football.

Leather is great, but I’m a sucker for suede

This one is suggested for display only, as the hair makes it hard to grip

The baseballs are a bit more affordable, but no less attractive. Again, product descriptions from their Etsy site:
LEMON BALL™ baseballs are vintage style baseballs based on the original lemon peel style “base ball” from the early 19th Century.
LEMON BALL™ baseballs are designed for the rigors of outdoor play. With use, they will soften and develop a rich patina. Firm yet supple, LEMON BALL™ baseballs are 8.5 inches in circumference and 3.5oz.

One crafted out of Horween Oxblood Chromexcel

Paul also makes credit card holders out of the same Horween leather used for the baseballs.

Beautiful stuff.
