Alue Optics sunglasses
Alue Optics is a recently launched line of “neo-retro” (aka mid-20th-century-inspired) sunglasses. The glasses are all handmade in Japan and Italy and retail between $175-275. Styles are unisex but there are a variety of frame sizes to accommodate men and women.
Lenses are glass, not plastic, and incorporate what the company is calling “Alue AQ Polarized (AQ-P) lens technology.” While the AQ-P are brown lenses, they also have styles that have a slight gold or titanium mirror coating.
“The inspiration for the Alue Optics collection was to fill the gap in the marketplace with a lens performance line – an enduring classic look that can keep your eyes functioning stress-free through your daily activities,” said Case Watson, partner, Alue Optics. “We transform classic sunglass styles using simple but distinctive design elements to provide timeless looks to complement the functionality of our Alue AQ-P lens.”
I contacted Alue to get a few pics of the styles that I liked best. My favorite of their styles is the Alue One, especially in Tawny Tort. It’s a little more rounded and refined to my eye than similar models by other manufacturers.
In Sage Bone. I like the look of the acetate, though I don’t have the right skin tone to wear it.
The Alue Six in Yellow Havana, my favorite of this style.
