Mark Ronson “Beat 2012” documentary

July 22, 2012

Coca-Cola sponsored DJ and producer Mark Ronson to travel the world and meet 5 Olympic atheletes. Mark records sounds from each of their respective sports and uses them as samples for “Anywhere In The World,” Coca-Cola’s® anthem for the London 2012 Olympic Games.

Mark’s orchestra is made up of David Oliver (110m hurdler from the United States); Kseniya Vdovina (400m sprinter from Russia); Dayyan Jaffar (archer from Singapore); Maria Espinoza (Taekwondo athlete from Mexico); and Darius Knight (table tennis player from Great Britain). The song also features vocals from pop superstar Katy B.

What follows is an hour long documentary of how the song was made and the concert debut of the song. The song itself is just okay. This is the first time I’ve heard Katy B sing, and the lyrics were just so-so–not really “anthemic.” But the journey of meeting the athletes and seeing where they came from is fascinating, as well as the instrumental snippets of the song throughout the film.
